Civil War Hero
Dorence Atwater was born in New York in 1840. He joined the Union Army at the outbreak of the Civil War and quickly rose through the ranks. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery at the Battle of Gettysburg. After the war, he was brevetted to the rank of brigadier general.
Prince Of Tahiti
In 1865, Atwater traveled to Tahiti on a business venture. He quickly became involved in local politics and was soon appointed prime minister. In 1880, he was elected king of Tahiti. He ruled for 10 years, during which time he brought many reforms to the island. He also established a close relationship with France, which helped to protect Tahiti from foreign invasion.

After his reign as king, Atwater returned to the United States and became a successful businessman. He owned several plantations in Hawaii and also invested in real estate in California. He was a generous philanthropist and donated large sums of money to various charities.
Death And Legacy
Dorence Atwater died in 1917 at the age of 77. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. He is remembered as a hero, a prince, and a successful businessman. His life is a testament to the power of the human spirit and the importance of following one's dreams.
