United Nations Involvement
President Jimmy Carter appointed Abram as the United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations in 1977. As the first Jew to hold the position, he faced significant opposition from Arab and Muslim nations.
Undeterred, Abram used his diplomatic skills to bridge divides and promote international cooperation. He was particularly outspoken against human rights abuses and the suppression of religious freedoms.
